About Alex

Alex is the proud father of Caleb and Anabella Nuttall.

Alex Nuttall was born in 1985 in Liverpool, England, and immigrated with his family to Canada in 1989, where he has since resided.

Growing up in government housing in Barrie, Alex was blessed to have been raised in a community with such incredible supports. Local programs helped provide Alex with playing sports, Christmas, and back to school.

In May of 2003, Alex Nuttall was appointed as student Mayor in the City of Barrie. Alex’s love for public service was fostered and grew over the following years until November 13th, 2006, when he was elected to Barrie City Council, representing South Barrie’s Ward 10 for 8 years.

On October 19th 2015, Alex was elected to represent Barrie–Springwater–Oro-Medonte in the House of Commons as their Member of Parliament.

As a Member of Parliament, Alex was called upon to serve in many roles to better Canadian governance. Alex served as Shadow Minister for Economic Development for Southern Ontario, and the following year Alex also proudly accepted the role of Shadow Minister for the new Sharing Economy, as well as Deputy Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science and Economic Development. On August 30, 2017, he was named Shadow Minister for Youth, Sports, and Persons with Disabilities. In January of 2019, Alex was promoted to Shadow Minister for Internal Trade, a key governmental economic portfolio.

On March, 25, 2019, Alex announced a decision not to seek a second term as Member of Parliament.

In the private sector, Alex worked in the financial services industry in Barrie from 2009 to 2015, in both the Bank and Credit Union space. Since leaving public service, Alex has served as Vice-President of NFTC, a telecommunications company, that specializes in fibre delivery of telecom services.
